If you're in the UK, you'll be pleased to know that VATStuff has been designed to meet all relevant VAT regulations. However, if you're outside of the UK, this software may not be applicable to your region.
Moving onto functionality, VATStuff is cross-platform, but at present, development is primarily focused on Linux. This means that a Windows version of VATStuff has yet to be prepared.
Before you can begin using VATStuff on Linux, you'll need to have Python version 2.5 or later installed. To check whether you have Python installed on your device, type 'python --version' into a terminal prompt.
Once you have Python installed, it's time to look at the additional libraries VATStuff requires, including WxPython, PIL, and Reportlab. If you're using Ubuntu, you can install all these libraries in one go by using the package management system to download Python-wxtools, Python-imaging, and Python-reportlab.
With the libraries downloaded, it's time to download VATStuff itself. Simply save the file vatstuff_0_1.tgz to your preferred directory (such as your home folder), then untar it using the command: tar -xf vatstuff_0_1.tgz. If you're using Ubuntu, you can simply right-click on the archive icon and click 'Extract Here' to save the software.
Once VATStuff has been saved and installed, you can begin using it by double-clicking on vatstuff.py in the vatstuff directory.
