Installing VFU is a straightforward process. First, to compile VFU, simply run the `make' command from the VFU base directory. The command compiles everything, but you can also compile individual parts manually by going into the `vslib' or `vfu' directories and running `make.' If any issues arise during installation, double-check if the `curses.h' file location isn't set to `/usr/include/ncurses' or if the vslib library is not in the `../vslib' directory.
Once everything is compiled, to install VFU, run the `install' script from the VFU base directory. It checks if all required files are available/built and then proceeds to copy `vfu/vfu' `rx/rx_*' files to `/usr/local/bin.' It also copies `vfu.1' to `/usr/local/man/man1' and `vfu.conf' to `/usr/local/etc.'
If you wish to install VFU manually, you have to copy `vfu' to either `/usr/local/bin' or `/usr/bin' directory and set the mode to `755 rwxr-xr-x'. The owner is not significant as root is also possible. Additionally, copy `vfu.1' to `/usr/man/man1,' all `rx/rx_*' tools to `/usr/local/bin, and install the Net::FTP perl module if necessary.
Lastly, before installing a new version of VFU, make sure to remove all old personal cache files to avoid any potential issues.
