Developed by Benno Luthiger
The VIF project is a virtual discussion forum that functions through a web-based platform. Its primary goal is to facilitate discussions around complex matters in a goal-oriented manner, through the implementation of a specific discussion model. This model leverages structured discussion threads, integrated quality control, and well-defined group boundaries.

The discussion threads are organized in a structured and cohesive manner. Each thread begins with a problem description and an opening question, with subsequent questions branching out in a tree-like structure. Each question in one level of the thread builds on a specific element of the parent question, and must be justified and understandable. This process is repeated until the questions reach a level of granularity at which contributors can answer them. At this point, the questions become specific answers, and the discussion moves towards identifying the best response for the complex social problem at hand.

To ensure the quality of contributions, each registered member acts as a reviewer for other members' contributions. The workflow for publication of a contribution is such that a member submits a contribution, which is then reviewed by another registered member selected at random. The reviewer either agrees with the publication or suggests revisions, and the process is repeated until all parties agree. This approach is used instead of moderation by a "benevolent dictator".

The platform also enforces well-defined group boundaries by requiring registration to participate in the forum, and by requiring members to log in to make contributions. Additionally, members who do not adhere to the community norms may be excluded.

Overall, the VIF project delivers a robust and collaborative forum for discussing complex issues. Its structured discussion threads, integrated quality control, and defined group boundaries make it a valuable tool for those seeking to engage in goal-oriented discussions. As a result, it is a recommended solution for individuals or organizations looking for a platform to discuss complex matters in-depth.
