VMV is a Vim plugin that offers a powerful solution for batch renaming files from the command prompt with Vim. This script is designed to function exactly like renamer.vim and can help you rename a mass of files all at once using the full power of Vim's editing capabilities.

The usage of VMV is much simpler to remember if you haven't used it in months, and the script itself is much shorter. This makes it an excellent tool for anyone who needs to rename a large number of files, such as individuals who have just ripped a CD to "track 01.mp3" through "track 12.mp3", or inherited a collection of mp3's without proper case and with underscores instead of spaces.

One notable feature of VMV is that it will deal with files that start with a - or -- with ease. The usage of this tool is straightforward: first, give it a list of files that require renaming. Next, edit that list to reflect what you want the file names to be. Finally, use ":wq" to save and quit the file, and you're done.

Vim is a text editor that was initially released by Bram Moolenaar in 1991 for the Amiga computer. Vim was created as an extended version of the vi editor, with many additional features designed to be helpful in editing program source code. While Vim is cross-platform, it is most popular on Unix-like operating systems. Released under a software license compatible with the GNU General Public License, Vim is free and open-source software.

Vim's interface is based on commands given in a text user interface rather than menus or icons. Vim's GUI mode, gVim, adds menus and toolbars for commonly used commands, but its full functionality is still expressed through its command-line mode. For many users, learning Vim may be slow initially, but once the basics are understood, they progress quickly.

To facilitate this progress, Vim has a built-in tutorial for beginners, and there is also the Vim Users' Manual that details basic and more advanced Vim features. This manual can be read from within Vim, or found online. Vim also has a built-in help facility (using the :help command) that allows users to query and navigate through commands and features.

To use VMV, you will need Vim installed on your system. In this release, some debug "echo" statements were removed, resulting in improved overall stability and functionality.
