I recently had the pleasure of trying out VPN Console, a software designed to read and interpret log files from Microsoft IAS and DHCP servers, as well as syslog messages. With its advanced capabilities, it even provides a converter daemon for event logs to syslog messages and a utility for capturing these messages. One of the standout features of this software is its use of SNMP to display system and interface details.
Some of the key features of VPN Console are as follows:
1) Analyze logs from multiple Microsoft IAS Servers.
2) Keep an eye on connection sessions, whether for VPN or dialup, with start/stop times and duration tracked.
3) Generate reports for the top ten login sessions based on total data transfer.
4) Monitor log events from Microsoft DHCP Servers.
5) Filter various DHCP events.
6) Export tables and reports into various formats -- including TXT, HTML, and CSV -- in preparation for MS Excel or database import.
7) Provide brief system information via SNMP.
8) Filter events by date.
9) Employ an event log to syslog converter daemon for Windows NT/2000/XP.
10) Capture syslog messages with ease.
11) Read and filter the syslog files created with the syslog capture utility.
