Weather Wallpaper is a software that fetches current weather data from NOAA on an hourly basis to display as a desktop background, based on the specified location.
Weather Wallpaper is a program that allows you to view current weather updates from NOAA by creating an animated wallpaper with real-time data based on the location you specify. The program retrieves the weather report every hour from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and generates a wallpaper based on the data collected.
Installation of Weather Wallpaper is quite simple as long as your operating system supports Debian, Ubuntu or other distros that support Deb packages. You can quickly download the Deb file (weather-wallpaper-0.2.0.deb), double-click on it to initiate the setup or add the repository for automatic updates by modifying the ‘/etc/apt/sources.list’ file. Users of ArchLinux can access the program from the ArchLinux User-community Repository, Gentoo users can install the ebuild at Gentoo’s Bugzilla. If neither of those options is feasible, users of all other distributions can download the tar.gz file, decompress it and run the command ‘make install’ to install the program with root privileges.
To start the program, go to Application –> Accessories –> Weather Wallpaper. The program will take a few seconds to retrieve weather reports and subsequently generate a wallpaper with real-time data. By default, the location of the data will be based on the specified location of Getafe, Madrid, Spain. To set your location, right-click on the status icon, select preferences and enter the ICAO Location Indicator for your city.
The latest release has added several new features and improvements, such as the ability to use imperial units and run on KDE. Additionally, there is now a GUI for changing preferences, including the option to set a proxy and move the weather information on the screen depending on the user's preferences. The program now also allows users to update data whenever they would like, and screensize detection has improved. Finally, updates to the app have also included changes to fog icons and bug fixes to improve overall stability.
