Woof servicemenu, a software for KDE, enables users to start a webserver which serves a specified file or folder.
The Woof servicemenu for KDE is a handy tool that starts a web server to serve the selected file or folder. This web server enables the files to be easily downloaded through a web browser, and once the transfer is complete, the program exits. It is an extremely convenient way to share files with your friends. The backend is based on the excellent program, Woof.
To use the Woof servicemenu, simply right-click on the file or folder that you want to share, and select "Actions" followed by "Send with Woof". The file or folder will then be served on your computer's IP address and port number 8080, which can be accessed via the address in your web browser. Please note that if you are behind a router or firewall, the port 8080 must be forwarded to your computer. Additionally, folders are served in the .tar.gz format.
Installation is straightforward, just copy "woof" and "send_with_woof.desktop" to ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ and make the files executable by typing "chmod +x woof". Then, restart Konqueror. If you save "woof" in another directory, you need to edit the path to the executable in the "send_with_woof.desktop" file.
Woof was originally written by Simon Budig and this Woof servicemenu comes with a modified version of Woof that I have made some very limited modifications to, so it works with Kdialog. If you want to use Woof from the command line, I recommend downloading the original and putting it in your $PATH. The bundled version of Woof can work from the command line, but it may throw up notifications through kdialog as I'm not a programmer (IANAP). Hopefully, I can learn some Python to make future versions of this service menu interact with the original Woof, rather than a "hacked" version.
