ypbind-mt

I recently had the opportunity to try out the software ypbind-mt, a multi-threaded implementation of a NIS binding daemon. I found that this software is designed to compile and work on Linux systems with glibx 2.x (libc6). This is a great advantage, as it ensures that users of virtually any system with POSIX threads and glibc 2.x can take advantage of this software. While I did note that ypbind-mt functions under Linux with libc5 and linuxthreads 0.7.1, it’s important to keep in mind that this C library is not really thread safe and should not be used with threads.

As I began testing ypbind-mt, I discovered that it boasts quite a few useful features. A few key features include its support of bindings to multiple domains, support of /var/yp/binding/* file for Linux libc 4/5 and glibc 2.x, support of a list of known secure NIS server (/etc/yp.conf), the ability to bind to the server which answered as first if the old one is down, and the ability to check every 15 minutes if the current server is really the fastest.

One exciting aspect of the latest release is that ypbind now has DBUS support to watch network status messages from NetworkManager (if NetworkManager is used). This added touch of support is extremely valuable for users who rely on NetworkManager tools.

Overall, I found ypbind-mt to be a well-designed and easy-to-use software option. Its key features and compatibility make it a valuable choice for those seeking to improve their system functionality.
