I recently had the pleasure of using the AFU Knoppix CD and was thoroughly impressed by the range of software it contains. Targeted towards radio enthusiasts, this CD has applications for various operating modes including PSK31, RTTY, SSTV, FAX, APRS and packet radio.
But that's not all - the CD also provides additional applications for Sat tracking, logging, locator referencing and antenna computation. The range of software on this CD is truly impressive, and it is evident that a lot of thought and effort has gone into its curation.
I was interested to learn that the idea for this CD first came about in April 2003 during a lecture by Klaus Knopper at the Ulmer Linux Expo. It's great to see that this idea has come to fruition and is now available for users to benefit from.
One thing that may concern some users is the fact that this CD is designed for use with the Linux operating system. But fear not, the applications on this CD are structured in such a way that they can run from the CD without affecting any existing system software.
Overall, I would highly recommend the AFU Knoppix CD to anyone who is interested in radio communication and wants access to a range of software for different modes of operation. While Linux may be an unfamiliar operating system for some, I found that the programs and KDE Desktops were easy to configure via the KDE menu. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
