Alarm Applet is a GNOME panel applet that alerts users when a specific time has arrived.
This applet offers a straightforward solution for those who tend to lose track of time while working on their tasks. It notifies you when a specific time has arrived, allowing you to display a dialog box with a message, execute a command, play a sound file or make the applet flash on and off.
The idea for this applet came from my own personal experiences of losing track of time while programming. Hoping to help others in the same situation, I created this panel applet.
While the applet works as advertised, there are a few limitations to note. The sound file used for sound alarms can be changed on the fly, but doing so too often may result in a memory leak, so caution is advised. Additionally, the volume control is not functional, so adjustments must be made manually using a mixer program.
As I have only tested this applet myself, there may still be undiscovered bugs or better ways of doing things. However, I have avoided cluttering the code with #ifdef statements for sound support, making it more readable and easier to maintain.
In this latest release, I have incorporated patches from Bruno Pires Marinho that fixed some issues and made several improvements. From now on, any bug fixes or feature additions will need to be made by users through patch submissions. While I will fix any major bugs that may arise, the future of this applet will depend heavily on community support.
