Any is a table-top style turn-based strategy that is easy to pick up and play anywhere. The objective is to reduce your opponent's base units to 0. If you enjoy other strategy games like Stratego or Magic: The Gathering, Any might be for you.
The computer version of Any is a simple single-player ASCII graphics game that can be played from the Terminal/Command line. To start playing, simply double-click on the application. You can choose to view the instructions, select player 1 or 2, set the maximum unit Power level, and choose your level of AI.
There are three types of units in Any: Attacker, Defender, and Base. Only units with Power 1 can be used as a base, but any unit can be used for Defense or Attack. Each player begins with one base automatically placed on the field and a Power 1 and 2 unit in reserves. New units are acquired at the beginning of each round based on the number of bases your opponent controls, with the power of the new units determined by a die roll. You decide the maximum Power level at the beginning of the game.
Each round consists of two phases, each with multiple steps, with both players completing each phase in turn before moving on to the next. Player 1 always goes first in each phase. Going first can be advantageous if you can destroy your opponent's bases, but detrimental in the placement phase if you do not know how your opponent will place their units.
