AppleCommander is a software tool that allows users to modify and manage Apple ][ disk image files. With this software, users can easily navigate and manipulate the contents of these files, making it a useful tool for those working with vintage Apple computers.
AppleCommander is a highly useful tool for manipulating Apple ][ disk images. One of the primary uses of this tool is to move data between Apple ][ disk images and a native filesystem. However, this project has grown into a general utility for manipulating Apple ][ emulator images.
Currently, AppleCommander is capable of reading and displaying information about disk images, creating disk images, importing files into disk images, exporting files of various types, and also has a rudimentary compiler. Disk image organizations currently supported include compressed images, 140K DOS-ordered images, 140K ProDOS-ordered images, 140K Nibble (DOS ordered) images, 800K ProDOS-ordered images, and 32MB ApplePC Hard Disk images.
In terms of disk formats, AppleCommander supports DOS 3.3, UniDOS, OzDOS, ProDOS, Apple Pascal, SSI's RDOS, and CP/M. Various file export filters are also available, including raw disk data, binary file, hex dump, ASCII file filter, formatted assembly output, Pascal ".text" files, Applesoft BASIC file filter, integer BASIC file filter, graphic image file filter, AppleWorks word processor file filter, database file filter, and spreadsheet file filter.
AppleCommander also has compile capabilities (BETA) for Applesoft BASIC. Viewer capabilities include BASIC programs (Applesoft and Integer BASIC), graphics images (same as supported by the graphics export function), AppleWorks files, text files, hex dump of all the above, and the "raw" format of all of the above.
The only requirement for AppleCommander is Java. Overall, this is a highly recommended tool for anyone manipulating Apple ][ disk images.
