Attachment Extractor extracts and manages attachments from selected messages with options to delete, detach, or mark as read.
I recently had the chance to test the Attachment Extractor software and found it quite useful. This software allows for the extraction of all attachments from selected messages, giving you the option to then delete, detach or mark them as read.
One thing to note before diving into this software is that it requires Thunderbird 1.5b-2.0b2 to be installed. Once that's been taken care of, the software is easy to use and has a range of features that make it a valuable tool to have at your disposal.
One of the standout features in the latest release is the improvement made to the Thunderbird attachment detaching code. The previous attachment detaching code was replaced with a hand-written code in JavaScript. This change should allow for the same capabilities as Thunderbird's original code but without the need for confirmation boxes.
Another great improvement is that the software now has the ability to detach attachments rather than just deleting them. Additionally, the exclude/include settings have been upgraded to test for the entire filename string rather than just file extensions. This makes for much more straightforward windows *.* notation.
Further into the technical improvements, the filename generating code was completely rewritten to an iterative style (as opposed to a recursive one) to avoid potential errors generated by too much recursion. The software's settings dialog was also re-organized into three different panes to accommodate more advanced filename filtering options.
Lastly, there were some changes made to the delay times for the software's processes, resulting in a speed-up. While there were no reported bugs, one potential issue was fixed regarding 'extract to default' usage without setting the default folder first.
