AudioRack Suite is a reliable open-source radio broadcast automation and live assist system that was developed in 2002. It was created by a user who had a poor experience with a commercial automation system at their local community radio station. The previous system frequently crashed, and the limited automation capabilities led to dissatisfaction. Initially, the creator used AudioRack as a file player with the existing automation system at KURA to help with their weekly show.

The AudioRack project presented an opportunity to develop a stable, scalable, and user-friendly radio automation system. The software should have portable playlists that could be moved between locations, shared music libraries, accessible network control, and a software-based mixing system that eliminates the need for an external mixing console. Additionally, the automation system should be interactive and adaptable to accommodate programming material inputted by live DJs.

The AudioRack system comprises various components. These include ARServer, which is a multi-client multi-bus audio engine, the clients (ARStudio and ARManager), which are used to access the ARServer and the library/automation database, the database (MySQL 5.1 and higher), the file system for audio file storage, and an audio input/output device. Clients could run separately from the ARServer, and multiple ARServer instances can operate on one computer.
