Autoplay

Autoplay is a software that can connect two Xboard/Winboard protocol-compliant chess engines to allow them to play against each other. The results of the game are logged in an easily parseable logfile, and after the game is complete, a specific exit code is returned (0 for white win, 1 for black win, etc).

To run Autoplay, users can input specific commands depending on the engines and settings they want to use. One example is using GNUChess versus Pos: "autoplay -1 'gnuchess -x' -2 'java -Xmx256M -jar pos --io-mode xboard' -r -l gnuchess_v_pos.log". Another example is using Sjeng versus GNUChess: "autoplay -1 sjeng -2 'gnuchess -x' -l sjeng_v_gnuchess.log".

It is also possible to run the engines on separate computers. For example, to run GNUChess on computer 'B' with white and Sjeng on computer 'A' with black, users can input the following commands: on computer B, "autoplay -P 7788 -0 'gnuchess -x'"; on computer A, "autoplay -1 'client:B:7788' -2 'sjeng' -v -r".
