The installation of AV Journal is a breeze. The user just needs to place the entry.sh file in a suitable location, say ~/.scripts/diary, and create a new file called idfile with the number 0 inside it, which can be done easily by typing "echo 0 > idfile" in command line mode. Then, open up the entry.sh file and edit the DATA path to a writable location where all entries will be stored.
One point to note is that there are some dependencies that this software tool relies on, such as arecord for audio recording, mencoder and transcode for video support, oggenc for audio compression, and beep for beeping. Moreover, it adds the current date and entry number using speech synthesis automatically at the beginning and end of each entry. However, it is built to use cepstral's proprietary speech synthesis. If the user wants to change this, they can look at the contents and replace swift with espeak or any other similar software.
Once the user has recorded an entry, AV Journal stores it in datapath/entry_id folder. If the user wants to do anything unique with the entry, such as autoupload it to YouTube or something else, they can use the store_entry subroutine.
