Bawler

February 23, 2007
Bawler is a software alarm clock designed for desktops that utilizes ncurses to display large, colorful figures on-screen.
Version 0.7.0
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage people.freenet.de
Developed by Michael Schulz and Martin Rogge
Bawler is an alarm clock software that provides big colored figures on-screen with the help of ncurses. The installation process is quite easy as the `configure' shell script automatically assigns correct values for system-dependent variables used during compilation. Once the values have been assigned, it creates a `Makefile' in each directory, along with `.h' files containing system-dependent definitions, a `config.status' shell script for future configuration, `config.cache' file for test results, and `config.log' containing compiler output that can be used for debugging `configure.'

If you need to perform unusual compilation steps, the `configure' script provides options to check whether to do them. To suggest a modification in the next release, mail diffs or instructions to the address mentioned in the `README.' If you no longer require the results from the `config.cache' file, you are free to remove or edit it.

The `configure.in' file is used to create `configure' with the help of the `autoconf' program. However, this file is only required if you wish to regenerate `configure' with a new version of `autoconf.' The steps to compile the package are easy:

1. `cd' to the directory containing the source code and type `./configure' to configure the package for your system. If on an old version of System V and using `csh,' it is recommended to type `sh ./configure' to prevent `csh' from executing `configure' itself. During the process, messages will be displayed showing the features being checked for.

2. Type `make' to compile the package.

3. Optionally, run self-tests by typing `make check.'

4. Install the programs, data files, and documentation by typing `make install.'

5. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.' To also remove the files that `configure' created, type `make distclean.'

The latest version of Bawler comes with a new feature that cycles the current time in different colors. Additionally, some bugs have been fixed, improving the overall user experience.
