BetaFTPD

I recently tried out BetaFTPD, a small, single-threaded FTP daemon. I was pleased to find that the single-threadedness actually makes it faster than other FTP daemons, and it uses very little memory. While there are some missing functions, I didn't find them to be necessary for my needs, and the current version provides a good amount of functionality.

One thing that stands out about BetaFTPD is that it's built on the idea of code reuse, which makes it a great option for other programmers who want to contribute to the project. The newest release comes with several key updates, including support for not running as root, fixes for numerous bugs (both major and minor), and significant performance improvements.

Additionally, there are now .deb files available for download and some changes that make it easier to compile BetaFTPD under Debian GNU/Linux. Users will also appreciate the fact that BetaFTPD now supports non-Linux platforms such as SunOS/SVR4 and FreeBSD. To top it off, the latest version has been given its own name, much like Samba. Overall, I found BetaFTPD to be a reliable and lightweight option for FTP daemons.
