I recently tested a Desktop Wallpaper program that creates customized wallpapers for your PC every time you start Windows. The most exciting aspect of this program is that it features real 3D models of biological molecules in random positions that are displayed on the wallpaper image.
This software offers six different molecules to choose from which include four prototypes of DNA and two proteins (Hemoglobine I Monomeric and Cytochrome C 550) that have a wide range of functions. You can select one of these molecules, the rotation axis, and the image scale ratio. The options are great and allow for a unique look each time you start your PC.
It's important to note that only 2 models are available in the unregistered version – DNA in B-conformation and Hemoglobine. If you opt for the registered version, you’ll have access to all of the available models.
The protein molecule models only showcase the main polypeptide chain (-OCCN-) as the sidechains of amino acid residues make the molecule look cluttered. Hydrogen atoms are also not presented because they’re too small in comparison to the other atoms.
