BixAgent enables local installation of BixData's monitoring component on supported Operating Systems.
BixAgent is an excellent monitoring component of BixData that can be installed locally on all supported Operating Systems. It offers more detailed instrumentation and monitoring capabilities than external service polling with BixServer and presents better manageability and reliability than technologies such as SNMP. BixAgent assumes the responsibility of gathering data and stores it locally in cases where network connectivity is not consistently available or has been interrupted.
The installation process for BixAgent is exceptionally straightforward, as it can be installed in a matter of seconds and even auto-configures itself. A Plug-in Architecture has been employed to eradicate problems caused by various kernel versions and proc file systems, and numerous plug-ins that support a wide range of operating systems and versions are included. BixAgent does not require any special security privileges and can access all monitoring values in read-only mode. SMART information can be gathered using a command-line utility by parsing the output instead of through the supported native plug-in.
