Cassandra

Cassandra is an advanced 3D scientific data viewer that is written in Java and based on the Visualisation Tool Kit (VTK). It offers modularity and is highly customisable due to its extensive set of dynamical and independent plug-ins that provide data processing capabilities. These plug-ins include cutting functions, isolevels and data threshold. Moreover, Cassandra simplifies the creation of processing filters by providing the common features on generic VTK objects. The existing filters are automatically loaded at runtime, providing a highly customisable VTK viewer that simplifies the learning curve of the VTK library for non-specialists.

Cassandra also includes a graphical visualisation pipeline editor based on the DedalEgraph library, which allows easy data processing. Additionally, Cassandra provides an advanced Python/Jython console, JyConsole, which allows quick prototyping and direct manipulation of all objects independent of their initial language. JyConsole includes an object-oriented completion that enhances its usability.

Requirements for using Cassandra include Java 1.4.2 or later. Furthermore, this release of Cassandra comes with several major improvements, such as support for VTK 5.0, integration of new features and evolutions of VTK 5.x, compliance with VTK 4.2, integration of version 1.3 of JyConsole, integration of several new plug-ins, such as the elevation data filter (scalar warping), and several bug fixes.
