CCP4

CCP4, short for Collaborative Computational Project Number 4 in Protein Crystallography, is a software that was established in 1979 to provide support for the collaboration of researchers working on protein crystallography software and to compile a comprehensive collection of software to fulfill the computational needs of relevant UK groups. Initially supported by the UK Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), CCP4 is currently supported by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and is coordinated at STFC Daresbury Laboratory.

Thanks to the efforts of CCP4, a program suite is now available to commercial and academic users all over the world. There are two committees that oversee CCP4: Working Group 1, which meets annually and handles general policies, and Working Group 2, which meets more frequently and coordinates developers. WG1 invites the PIs of all UK protein crystallography groups, as well as representatives of UK-based commercial groups, and WG2 manages the developers.

An Executive Committee, which consists of the Chairmen of Working Groups 1 and 2, the CCP4 Group Leader, and elected individuals from Working Group 1, oversees the project's day-to-day activities and provides reports to Working Group 1.
