Chango

Chango is a software that efficiently caches MP3 files from multidisc CDROM drives. With Chango, disparate discs can be cached into a predetermined cache, enabling quick access to required data simultaneously. Configuring this software is seamless; simply edit the 'drives.conf' file depending on how your machine is set up. The included .conf file shows two drives, each holding a maximum of four discs.

Make sure to set up symlinks in /dev from /dev/cdrom0 to /dev/hdc and a second one from /dev/cdrom1 to /dev/hdd. Ensure these links are read/execute by the user who will be using the software. If you're using a RedHat distro, all mounted devices will show up in /mnt; hence, the /etc/fstab file shows the following:

/dev/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom0 iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0

By looking at these files, you can see a direct correlation between the two. After performing these actions, you should be able to 'mount /mnt/cdrom0' as a user running the script. Additionally, you should be able to switch disks using "eject -c 2 /dev/cdrom0" to swap disks.

Run the "scandrives.pl" script by executing 'perl scandrives.pl'. This script scans the CDs in the drives and creates database files based on the MP3s. It also shows you the directories it's working through as it runs. If it detects that the CD is the same as the one it had already scanned, it skips it. This feature ensures that if you change only one disc, you can rerun the application, and it will only act on the new or updated discs.
