Chroma is an OS X Dashboard utility that offers a smooth experience of converting colours between HSV, RGB, and HEX formats. The software application lets you make the most out of favourites by saving them to the swatch library, which can be synced across systems using Dropbox or other folder sync services.
Upon launching Chroma, it notifies the user regarding the absence of a library file. Setting up the library location in the preferences window is a simple and easy process. By default, the application uses ~/Library/Preferences/, but you can easily choose ~/Dropbox/ for synchronising data across multiple devices via Dropbox. This location input can direct to an authorised folder structure, including the ones managed by SugarSync, LiveMesh, or other services.
The current version of the software only creates a library text file and not folders. If the directory where the library text file is supposed to exist does not exist, Chroma will generate errors and be unable to create the text file.
To move library swatches to the primary editing area, hover over the colour sample and click on the arrow. Similarly, to delete library swatches, click on the minus sign on the right-hand side. Clicking on any value in a library swatch copies the data to your system clipboard. Modifying a library entry is easy and can be done by clicking the colour sample, moving the data to the editing area, and then using the delete icon to remove the old swatch.
After making any changes, click the large plus sign, where the right group and swatch name will already be filled in. Pressing save will reinstate the updated version back into the Chroma library. Manual editing of the library collection is also possible since it is stored in a plain text file.
In case of the library file's deletion, Chroma will automatically regenerate it using the original demo colour samples. Chroma is an extremely well-functioning and useful application that is simple to use for all kinds of colour conversions.
