Cylindrix project is a fantastic 3D action strategy shooter that was initially released for DOS back in 1995. After years of anticipation, it has finally been ported to Windows and Linux. As one of the two programmers who created the game back in the day, I can confidently say that this is an excellent title that is still as fun to play now as it was then.
During development, we had to write everything from scratch, including keyboard interrupts and graphics access. We used DJGPP, the protected mode GCC for DOS, which allowed us to use more than 640k of RAM without having to deal with EMS managers. However, because of DOS's limitations, we were unable to release the game on Windows until now.
But now, thanks to the Allegro library, we have successfully ported Cylindrix to both Windows and Linux. This has been a long-awaited dream of mine, as the game wouldn't run on most modern operating systems prior to this port. Overall, if you're a fan of classic action strategy shooters, Cylindrix is a must-play experience that should not be missed.
