Debian Package Tools FE, a python-qt3 based software, begins with its first application, Debian Package Tools FE, aimed at package management.
I recently had the opportunity to try out the Debian Package Tools FE application based on python-qt3. This software is designed to make building packages for Debian-based systems easier and more accessible.
What impressed me most about the application was its user-friendly interface, which makes it easy to use even for those without any prior knowledge or experience with dh-make, dpkg-dev, debhelper or other command line applications. Despite its simplicity, it's important to note that Debian Package Builder FE is only a graphical frontend and therefore cannot fix build dependencies or repair non-standard sources.
This particular release is meant only for testing, but it provided me with a great experience overall. Though it is not intended for non-Debian based systems, I found that it worked seamlessly on my Debian-based machine. It's important to note, however, that there are some systems for which it may not work due to dependency issues. For example, it won't work on SUSE due to the Qscintilla package not containing the full version of Qscintilla.
While I didn't test this on an Ubuntu system, theoretically it should work from Breezy. That being said, there may be some package dependencies that prevent you from completing the installation. If that's the case, the developer has included an Ubuntu version that you can test instead.
Overall, I found this to be a valuable addition to my software collection. Note also that this release includes support for debhelper 5, which makes it even more useful for building Debian packages. In case of any issues or errors, it's good to know that you can test it from the command line using the provided commands.
