DHCP-DNS

This software, DHCP-DNS update DNS servers based on DHCP requests, is an upgrade from the previous v0.52 version. It now includes support for servers that manage multiple domains, eliminating the need to specify the domain name that the DNS server administers. With this version, users simply need to provide the path to their dhcpd.conf file, and the perl script will automatically locate the domain names (option domain-name).

Although this software works well, one potential issue that may arise is when transferring a host from one LAN to another. This issue is not due to the perl script but rather the DHCP server. Older DHCP servers may not fully comply with RFC2131, which specifies that to release a lease, the client must provide its UID and current IP address. These older servers may only release leases according to UIDs and investigate IP addresses only if no lease for the UID is found. However, this problem has been resolved in version 2.0pl2.

Additionally, users can easily patch an old server to make it compliant by downloading the version 2.0b1pl6 version available on the site. Overall, this is a reliable and efficient software that streamlines the management of DNS servers for multiple domains.
