Diamond Crush is a puzzle game developed by the Italian Diamonds Team, set to be released worldwide before the end of 2006. The First Playable Version, a pre-alpha for offline multiplayer gaming only, is currently available for download on the game's official site for playtesting purposes.
Built using java 1.5 and the lwjgl library, Diamond Crush was developed using agile development methodologies such as Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Extreme Programming (XP). These methodologies were adapted to a context where the development team is dispersed throughout a whole country, Italy.
Player controls are set up with player 1 default keys as follows: W (not used), A (Move left), S (Increase falling speed), D (Move right), R (90° anti-clockwise rotation), and T (90° clockwise rotation). Player 2 default keys are Up arrow (not used), Left arrow (move left), Down arrow (increase falling speed), Right arrow (move right), "," (90° anti-clockwise rotation), and "." (90° clockwise rotation).
Known problems and bugs include the game refusing to start on some GNU/Linux systems due to outdated libraries requiring users to create a symbolic link. In addition, the game may not run on GNU/Linux systems with amd 64 and xfree as x server. Iconising the game's window might also cause slight visualisation flaws. On Windows configurations such as Win2000 and Win98, the DiamondCrush.exe file may not work, requiring users to use run-diamonds.bat to launch the game. Treasure Boxes may sometimes not work in the upper row of the play fields, and making too many stones fall may not trigger a Game Over, even if the opponent's play field is completely filled.
