Discid

Discid is a software program designed to calculate the disc-ID for audio compact discs, and it is written in C++. By reading the track-info of a compact disc, the program is capable of generating a disk-ID that can be used to identify discs at CDDB-Servers. This identification allows users to send queries to these servers and retrieve information about Disc-Title, Artist, Track-Titles, and more.

The installation process for Discid offers three different methods. Users can choose to install the RPM-Distribution available for Linux systems, copy the TGZ distribution contents to their local computer and compile it, or simply copy the executable discid-file to a directory within the current path. On Linux, recommended directories for this might include /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin.

Once installed, the program is relatively simple to use. Users need only type "$ discid [device]" to generate the desired disc-ID. If no device is given, the program will automatically take /dev/cdrom as the default option.
