dittoGUI provides a user-friendly interface that simplifies the use of the standard ditto command by allowing users to perform drag and drop functions.
I recently had the opportunity to test dittoGUI, a drag and drop interface software designed to work with the standard ditto command. What's unique about this application is that it only includes a subset of the ditto commands, which is perfect for those who seek simplicity and ease of use.
One essential thing to note is that dittoGUI won't create archives as you can do this directly from Finder. While testing the software, there were some quirks that I encountered, such as the source drawer unexpectedly opening on the right instead of the left when the dittoGUI window is too close to the left side of the screen. Additionally, the tool copies the content of the source folder, not the folder itself, which is the normal ditto behavior.
However, there were also some known quirks that dittoGUI users should be aware of, such as the software needing the entire source group to be .zip files to uncompress them fully. The main window only displays the first 13 characters of long filenames, while the tooltip has the full filename. The window title doesn't update immediately when dittoGUI runs in the background, and the tool creates a destination folder if it doesn't exist, which is again typical ditto behavior.
Despite the quirks, the recent release of dittoGUI had a few improvements and added some new features. These include a new icon and target icons for drop zones, a clear source option, and a new folder button on select destination browse sheet. Registered users can also enjoy two new drawers for additional source and destination control.
