I recently had the opportunity to try out DjVu, a platform designed for compression technologies, file formatting and the delivery of high-resolution images and digital documents through the web. DjVu downloads and displays documents with lightning speed, and is compatible with all major platforms without falling victim to any compatibility issues related to fonts or colors.
When compared to other file formats like PDF and PostScript for digital documents, TIFF (and PDF) for scanned bitonal documents, JPEG and JPEG2000 for photographs and pictures, and GIF for larger palettized images, DjVu proves to be a superior alternative.
