It employs principles from customer relationship management systems but is specific to print publishers. The software was commissioned by the Media Development Loan Fund based on its experience working with print publishers across over 30 countries worldwide, where it provides support through financing, training, and technology. In many places, print distribution is a significant challenge that independent publishers face due to tight controls. Dream is an essential tool for tracking print circulation.
Similar to CRM systems like Campware's Cream software, Dream permits users to maintain a clear picture of their distribution businesses through the regular entry of contracts, orders, and shipment information. Dream's Report functions primarily manage these activities. The software is designed to resemble an email application, and its inbox manages inbound communications like customer emails and phone calls. Additionally, because it works with any standard SMTP mail server, outbound communication is maintained, including records of users' responses.
Dream serves two functions: a database that allows users to store relevant information about their print publications, distributors, and sellers, and a tool for retrieving and presenting this stored data in different ways. It provides utilities for tracking products, promotions, and communications. Dream manages four types of information, including product details and the individuals to whom users distribute their print. This information is entered on the Options tab of the screen and primarily displayed in the menus on the Main tab's screens. Specific products like individual issues of prints, distributors, sellers, and the tracking of these products from contract to order to shipment to return are managed on Dream's second tab.
The third tab handles communications, including incoming messages from various sources, outgoing emails to customers or individuals, and newsletters. The software also includes a user information tab, which contains usernames, passwords, preferences, and permissions. The new release of Dream Print Tracking System contains minor bug fixes, and a Russian localization has been added.
