Developed by Kevin L. Thompson and the Element Linux Team
Element is a Linux-based operating system that is designed specifically for media-center personal computers. It is intended to be connected to your HDTV for a digital media and internet experience, and it comes preloaded with dozens of applications that allow you to listen to, view, and manage your music, videos, photos, and internet media.

The designers of Element have strived to make their system simple and intuitive, while at the same time not sacrificing aesthetics or more advanced configuration options found on a typical desktop computer. This balance of features and customization makes it easy for the end-user to enjoy a comfortable multimedia and internet experience they will pick up and understand the essentials of in minutes.

Element is based on and shares a development relationship with the popular Ubuntu Linux, which in contrast is developed primarily for home-office pc use. This relationship allows Element to benefit from Ubuntu's reputation for stability and reliability while offering a custom-tailored user interface and multimedia experience.

Element was founded in March 2008 to provide an intuitive and aesthetic computing experience for digital media enthusiasts. The operating system is specifically designed for internet-entertainment and multimedia purposes, making it perfect for use in living rooms and entertainment areas.

As one of many open-source operating systems based on Linux, Element has placed a strong emphasis on 'Being Not Just Another Linux Distribution'. Its media-centric approach, along with its unique and easily understandable interface and the technologies used to make it all possible, set it apart from other available Linux-based systems.

Element was founded by Kevin Leon Thompson, a developer and consultant who has worked extensively within the Linux community. The Element Core-Team is based out of Galveston-League City, Texas.

To run Element smoothly, there are optimal and minimum system requirements. Optimal system requirements include a 1.6GHz+ processor speed, 1024MB+ RAM/Memory, 20+ GB free HDD space, an HDMI or S-Video 3D OpenGL compatible video card, and a hi-speed internet connection for updates. Minimum system requirements include a 1.0GHz processor speed, 512MB RAM/Memory, 10 GB free HDD space, an HDMI or S-Video basic internet connection for critical updates.
