I had the pleasure of trying out Emu48, an emulator for HP calculators, and I must say, it's impressive! This software is a carbon port of the original Emu48 for Windows, so it uses the same ROM images and interface skins. The great news for Mac users is that it works under OS X 10.2.x and 10.3.x.
Emu48 is capable of emulating 6 different HP calculator series - HP49/48/40/39/38. It has a range of features that users will find helpful and convenient. One of its strengths is its KML skin support, which essentially makes the emulator look and feel like a real calculator. However, this feature is only available with certain models.
The State Save/Open function allows users to pick up where they left off when returning to a calculation, while the Drag and Drop feature is great for transferring files quickly and easily. Additionally, the Copy and Paste feature is included to make inputting large amounts of data a breeze. For those who enjoy the sound feedback, the Beep function is available, although it only produces a system beep for now.
Another impressive feature of Emu48 is the Debugger, which enables users to step through their code one instruction at a time or halt execution when a specified condition is met. The Memory card emulation allows users to save their work on a simulated card, and Greyscale mode is also an option.
