The ExpertEyes toolkit is a package that includes two programs: the Eye Tracker Calibrator and the Fit Eye Model. In this review, we will focus on the Eye Tracker Calibrator.
The Eye Tracker Calibrator uses Gabor jets to identify the corners on all frames. However, searching the entire image is too costly. To reduce search space, the program offers corner hints that can be added manually using Corner_Selector.jar. To run this program, simply download the Corner_Selector.jar file and run it by double-clicking it.
Once you open the program, browse to the calibration folder for your subject (not the project folder, despite the name). This will place a folder called CornerHints in the calibration folder that the EyeTrackerCalibrator creates. If you don't have this yet, you can select the project folder and drag the cornerhints folder into the calibration folder later. Additionally, choose the small cleaned scene folder, and the ratio of the small and large cleaned scene files should be approximately 2.81.
After you have the paths correct, click the setup button to start the calibration process. You can then go through the individual frames, centering the yellow square on the correct corner for each of the four corners of your monitor. You can use the space bar to turn the review function on and off, and the arrow keys to advance and go back. The location of a frame is set when the program leaves it. Once you have done all four corners, click done. This will save the hints to a folder called CornerHints located in your calibration folder.
