Fast User Switch Applet is a GNOME 2.10 panel applet that allows for menu-based user-switching similar to MacOS X. This applet integrates with GDM to switch between or create new X11 sessions and offers the same users as the GDM face browser.
Users have the option to display the applet in the panel using their current username, the word "Users," or an icon. Additionally, there is the possibility of configuring it with an item that launches an X session in a window. The applet code was created with the intention of making it easy to cut-and-paste the system-interaction code into other applications such as screensavers.
During the build-time configuration, it is necessary to install FUSA to the same prefix as the panel. Most distributions will use /usr for this purpose. Other flags that must be set include the GDM configuration file location, a users-and-groups command line, and the gdmsetup command line. Examples of setting these flags on Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora are given.
