Find A Word is a software application that allows users to enjoy a word game.
Find A Word is a well-designed word game that provides users with an entertaining and engaging experience. The game consists of five turns, with each turn lasting for a duration of 30, 60, or 90 seconds, according to the user's choice. When the game begins, the user will see three vowels and five consonants in the Letter Pot field, and their aim is to make as many words as possible using these letters.
To enter a word, the user simply needs to type it into the "Enter Your Word" field and press the "Enter" button, or hit the Return key. The game accepts words that are made from the Letter Pot letters, included in the Find A Word dictionary, not a proper name, a contraction or an abbreviation, and unique (not used before in this turn).
Additionally, the player can speed up the game by clicking the "Start Turn" button if they don't want to wait until the end of the turn. The game awards ten points for each word, plus an extra point for each letter in the word. On completing 30 words before the end of a turn, the player receives 200 bonus points and a time bonus (1/10/100 points per unused second for 90/60/30 seconds per turn).
Upon completing five turns of the game, the player's Total Score is compared to the highest ten scores. If their score is within the top ten, their name, score, number of turns with bonuses, and time per turn are added to the High Scores table. The High Scores window can be accessed from the menu bar at any time, and users can edit their name in the table by double-clicking on it, typing a new name and pressing "Enter".
The Find A Word dictionary includes over 80,000 words, and the user can add or remove words using the Word Maintenance window from the menu bar, should they wish to do so. The game saves the changes to the dictionary automatically, and the new dictionary becomes effective from the next session. However, if the user wishes to restore the default dictionary, they can click the "Use Default Word Set" button, but the process will overwrite any user changes.
Finally, the game includes helpful features such as a list of words that could be made from the user's Letter Pot letters available under the Help menu, a sound on/off switch and a Help window. Find A Word is an excellent game designed in REALbasic, and it's offered as freeware.
