Flashmode

Flashmode is an incredibly useful tool that allows for simultaneous typesetting, just like Textures did. Upon starting Flashmode, it immediately searches for the front-most document in TeXShop and hooks itself to that document for as long as it remains open. This means that even if the front-most document changes, it won't cause any harm.

Flashmode regularly checks the document for modifications at user-defined intervals (default is 0.5 seconds), and then performs a save, a pdflatex run, and updates the corresponding PDF file in TeXShop. Even if the document hasn't yet been typeset, Flashmode can still be invoked, but it's important to note that the first action will be to perform a typesetting command.

An important feature of Flashmode is that any tex syntax errors won't cause any disruptions or error messages, and the PDF file will never be corrupted. While the errors will be reported in the log file, the PDF viewer will be none the wiser. In fact, the last refreshment will always be visible, ensuring that the user isn't presented with any error messages.

When the tex document is unmodified, Flashmode will remain in the background with very little CPU load. On average, Flashmode has a CPU usage of around 2.7%, which means that it can stay open for as long as necessary without negatively impacting performance. Additionally, Flashmode won't interfere with other scripts or commands running in TeXShop, even when the source document is being typeset independently.
