Font Book Helper

Font Book Helper is a software that changes the icon representing the printer or outline font parts of Adobe PostScript Type 1 fonts. This is done by replacing Font Book's default gray icon with a red one, akin to the red PostScript "A" icon used in OS 9 and prior. The change in visual representation breaks up the grayish monotony of Font Book and makes it easy to identify fonts and font types at a quick glance. It also addresses some user confusion when trying to get Font Book to "recognize" their fonts.

PostScript Type One fonts have "parts" falling into two categories: the font suitcase and the corresponding PostScript Type 1 font. Font Book cannot directly use or open the PostScript Type 1 outline part of a font, causing the appearance of dimmed fonts in the Open file dialog and Font Book producing no result when double-clicking them in the Finder. Instead, Font Book suggests selecting or double-clicking the font suitcase (with a normal gray icon). Font Book Helper automatically copies the referenced outline fonts in this case.

Please note that Font Book Helper is only compatible with OS X 10.3.x as it does not yet work properly under 10.4.x.
