I recently tried out Freak Show and was impressed with its features and capabilities. The free version of the software has similar effects to Apple Photo Booth, but what makes Freak Show stand out is that it can run on computers that aren't compatible with Photo Booth.
If you decide to upgrade to the paid version, you'll gain access to the Extreme tab, which includes nine additional effects, the ability to create Freak Show Quicktime movies, and full-screen mode. One great thing about Freak Show is that you don't need an iSight camera to use it; Firewire DV cameras and most webcams work just fine.
Unlike Photo Booth, Freak Show doesn't require Quartz Extreme and is a universal binary, meaning it can run on any Mac that runs Tiger. While a newer computer will give you better video results, even an old G4 can be used to capture still photos with Freak Show.
