FUR is a software that enables users to mount Windows CE devices onto a Linux file system. It simplifies data transfer by allowing users to access data on their Windows device via their Linux system.
FUR is an application that allows the user to mount a Windows CE based device onto their Linux file system. It is powered by FUSE (Filesystem in UserSpacE) of Miklos Szeredi, along with Synce Project's librapi2 - a Unix implementation of RAPI protocol used to communicate with the user's other operating systems. Simply execute FUR with the proper arguments and your previously connected handheld will appear mounted on your file system. You can then copy, move, read and write data with your favorite programs.
However, FUR does come with some downsides. Firstly, it is not very stable, especially when used concurrently by different processes. It is also not well tested, and the source code is not well-organized. The implementation is unnecessarily involved and lacks proper documentation. Additionally, FUR is not even remotely optimized and comes with deficient configuration tools.
Other problems include anti-optimized random access I/O, a buggy write function (perhaps due to concurrent file access), and an incomplete resource locking system to prevent different processes from writing on the same file. FUR also lacks a caching system, has obscure errors and incomplete implementation of some attributes (like ctime). There is no UID/GID check, which is not necessarily a security issue, but may result in some users seeing error messages. Lastly, the log reporting is suboptimal.
