Version 1.0.2 / 1.0.3 Beta
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage fusemk5a.sourceforge.net
Developed by Jan Wagner
fuseMk5A is a read-only user-space file system designed specifically for Conduant StreamStor disk recorders. The system is based on FUSE and provides normal file access to the data that is stored on the diskpack. The software is compatible with the default kernel 2.4 and kernel 2.6 (Mark5 Debian, RedHat) and eliminates the need for the extra step of copying scans onto the system disk, making it even more convenient for Mark5 systems.

Mounting Mark5A and Mark5B diskpack contents into a directory is easy with fuseMk5A. Scans can be accessed as normal Linux files, and there are several mount options to choose from to suit your preferences. These include --bank=[0|1] for selecting either the diskpack in Bank A or in Bank B (default is 0 for Bank A), --verbose for running fuseMk5A in the foreground with debug info output, and --cachesize=[bytes] for specifying a read cache size in bytes (default 16MB).

One of the best things about fuseMk5A is that it provides a convenient way to access scans without the need to copy them onto the system disk. For instance, if you want to access scan data stored in Bank A, you can simply use 'oper@Mark5-637% ./fuseMk5A --verbose /mnt/diskpack' to mount the diskpack contents into the /mnt/diskpack directory.

There are some limitations to keep in mind when using fuseMk5A. For instance, it only provides read-only access, which means you cannot write to the diskpack. However, anyone who wants to program this functionality is free to do so! Additionally, only one file can be open and read at a time due to StreamStor design issues. On the positive side, the warning message that appears when using fuseMk5A can be ignored, and the file length is actually placed into a stat.st_size (proper 64-bit) and not a size_t (32-bit).

In conclusion, fuseMk5A is an easy-to-use and convenient software application that provides read-only file access to data stored on Conduant StreamStor disk recorders. The latest release has removed the dependency on /var/dir/Mark5A and added Chesters Mark5A process detection. While there are some limitations to keep in mind, fuseMk5A is still an excellent software tool for anyone who needs to access scan data stored on a Conduant StreamStor disk recorder.
