If you're looking for an applet that allows you to keep an eye on the temperature of your harddisk and your CPU, then GAI Temp is the solution you need. This software is designed to read the temperatures that acpi, Lm_sensors and hddtemp offer, and display them in a way that won't disturb your workflow on your desktop. You can choose to display the temperature as a dock-app or in the gnome-panel, depending on your preference.

To achieve this level of flexibility, GAI-Temp uses the General Applet Interface (GAI). This means that you can customize the way that the temperature is displayed based on your own needs and preferences.

There are some requirements that you need to meet before you can use GAI Temp effectively. You'll need gai >= 0.5.8, as well as Linux >= 2.6 for Lm_sensors. You can check your version of Linux by typing "uname -r" into your terminal. You'll also need to have hddtemp running as a daemon, in order to display the harddisk temperature. Finally, make sure that you have acpi-support in your Linux Kernel.

In terms of recent updates, this latest release has removed a seg.fault issue which caused crashes on some systems while saving the configuration. Additionally, the software now uses alternate paths as ACPI-temperature source, which is hardcoded for reliability.

Overall, GAI Temp is a powerful and customizable tool that can help you keep your hardware at the right temperature. Give it a try and see what it can do for you.
