Gantry::Docs::QuickStart

Gantry::Docs::QuickStart is a useful Perl module that makes getting started with your first Gantry application easy. If you are looking to build a Gantry app quickly, the easiest way to do so is by using bigtop. You simply need to run "bigtop -n AppName list of tables" and provide a suitable name for your application along with a list of tables you plan to use. Later on, should you think of more tables to add, it's easy to do so.

Bigtop takes care of building a database for you if you have sqlite in your path. All you need to do is change to the directory where your app was created and start the stand-alone server by running "./app.server".

Should you not use sqlite, or if bigtop cannot find it in your path, change to the directory where bigtop created your app. Create a database called app.db with your preferred database engine, which can then be populated easily. Once this is done, start up the app.server.

For Postgres users, the command looks like this:

cd AppName
createdb app.db -U postgres
psql app.db -U regular_user < docs/schema.postgres
./app.server -d Pg -u regular_user -p password

MySQL users can do this instead:

cd AppName
mysqladmin create app.db -u root -p
mysql -u root -p app.db < docs/schema.mysql
./app.server -d=mysql --u=regular_user -p='secret'

Once your app is up and running, you can view it by pointing your browser to any of the URLs shown by the app.server when it started up. Overall, Gantry::Docs::QuickStart proves to be a helpful tool, especially for those who are new to Gantry applications.
