Gcalctool

Gcalctool is the default GNOME desktop calculator that is equipped with Basic, Financial, and Scientific modes. This software utilizes multi-precision arithmetic to generate highly accurate results. The desktop calculator is designed for use with both the keyboard and mouse and features a similar visual layout to hand-held calculators. The financial, logical, and scientific modes of operation are color-coded for ease of use, and some calculator keys have menu marks to indicate an associated menu.

One important thing to remember about Calctool is that it performs calculations from left to right without arithmetic precedence. If arithmetic precedence is required, parentheses should be used. Arithmetic operations are done using multi-precision floating-point numbers, and accuracy can be adjusted from zero to nine numeric places in fixed notation. The software can display numbers using engineering and scientific notations, and the base of operation (binary, octal, decimal, and hexadecimal) can be changed.

Calctool also features ten memory registers that allow numbers to be stored or retrieved for arithmetic operations. The display window shows the current numerical value, the current base and trigonometric type, as well as indicators for the hyperbolic and inverse function switches and the current numerical mode. If an operation requiring multiple numerical inputs is partially complete, it is displayed in the window as a reminder.
