Geekast is a software option that offers an alternative to the traditional Web interface.
Geekast project offers a unique alternative to the standard web interface. It currently offers support for audio formats such as Ogg and MP3, and video formats such as OGM. These can be streamed through an external player, such as Totem, or an internal player based on the powerful Gstreamer multimedia framework. Additionally, it is expected that users will eventually be able to encode webcam feeds or any other input stream over the Peercast network.
To run Geekast, users need Ruby (and possibly some external libraries, such as yaml4r and rexml), Ruby-GNOME2, and GNOME (specifically, Gconf and trayicon). Installation is easy with Peercast - just launch the Peercast daemon. For Geekast itself, users must first copy the peercast/html/geekast/ directory to the Peercast html directory (most likely /usr/share/peercast/html/ depending on the user's distribution). Next, they should copy the data directory to /usr/local/share/geekast/ and install the geekast schema using the command "gconftool-2 --install-schema-file=schemas/geekast.schemas" in the terminal. Finally, users can launch Geekast by navigating to the 'src' directory and launching geekast.rb.
