GNoise

GNoise is a powerful wave file editor software designed specifically for Linux users. The primary focus of this software is to provide users with lightning-fast performance and the ability to handle big files with ease. This software is capable of loading and displaying files, generating a display cache, playing the file, cutting, copying, pasting, undoing multiple operations, muting, fading in and out, reversing, normalizing, and more.

The primary design objectives of GNoise are stability, speed, and the ability to handle big files. The software can seamlessly handle files as large as 500MB, although the author doesn't happen to have any wave files that size laying about. The software author is constantly working on improving GNoise and has provided a list of planned features and fixes for upcoming releases.

The beauty of GNoise is its custom gtk widgets that support setting colors through the normal gtkrc mechanisms. A sample gtkrc file is included in the software package, just drop it in ~/.gnoise and edit it to your likings. It is important to note that this software is a destructive editor. All editing is done directly on the soundfile, so it is advisable to work on a copy of files you don't want to lose.

One critical point to remember when using GNoise is not to mix the use of the disable undo option on different edits within an editing session. If you start editing a file with undo disabled, then leave undo's disabled until you close the file. At that point, you can turn undo on and re-open the file if you wish to edit with undo capability.

In the latest release of GNoise, markers/cue points have been added. You can now add and delete markers that are saved in a standard cue chunk inside the wave file. If you encounter any bugs or issues while using GNoise, feel free to send the software author an email or patch.
