The Gnome-terminal patch enables prompt font selection in Gnome-terminal software.
I recently stumbled upon the Gnome-terminal patch that adds a fast font selection feature to Gnome-terminal. After testing it out, I must say that it's a great addition to the terminal emulator. However, it's currently not yet available on CVS, which can be frustrating for some users who are eagerly waiting for its release. Perhaps we'll see it added to CVS soon, though I wouldn't hold my breath.
Update as of August 9th, 2001: The patch is now outdated and needs to be updated. According to the developer, they've already created an updated version of the patch, but are dreading the process of trying to get it approved by TPTB (the powers that be).
Overall, I find the fast font selection patch to be a well-implemented and useful addition to Gnome-terminal. While it may be frustrating to wait for its official release in CVS, I'm hopeful that it'll be added soon, to the delight of terminal users everywhere.
