As a software reviewer, I had the opportunity to try out and evaluate the GNOME Terminator project. This project aims to maximize the available space on a desktop for terminals, which is particularly useful for sysadmins like me who spend a great deal of time in SSH sessions and working with terminals.
One of the standout features of GNOME Terminator is that it enables more efficient use of screen real estate, which can help improve productivity in the long run. As someone who spends hours on end in terminals, every inch of extra space is worth trying for.
It is important to note, however, that zsh does not work with Terminator at the moment. Bash, on the other hand, works well for me personally, and I am currently investigating the cause of this issue.
Despite this minor limitation, it is worth highlighting that the underlying concept of Terminator is actually quite simple. The project is essentially a python script that places multiple vte widgets in a window, which is the same widget used by gnome-terminal.
It is worth keeping in mind that not all the behaviors of gnome-terminal have been cloned in the project, and some unexpected and buggy behaviors may arise. Nonetheless, overall, I found the GNOME Terminator project to be a useful tool for maximizing the available space on a desktop for terminals.
