GoblinX is a quality Live-CD that is based on the Slackware distribution, perfect for users who value excellent applications and a practical yet beautiful workspace. It contains commonly used and popular Linux applications, which can be explored simply by clicking on the Applications button.
A Live-CD is a fully operational Linux system that can be run from any CD-ROM drive without requiring installation on the hard drive. Simply remove the GoblinX CD from the drive to return to the previous operating system.
Using GoblinX is easy; all you need is a bootable CD-ROM drive and the GoblinX distro CD. It runs effortlessly on your computer off of the CD using on-the-fly decompression. Customize the system's settings and kernel image selection via cheat codes found on the first screen that appears after booting, or let GoblinX run smoothly with default system settings by pressing "ENTER".
The graphical boot screen displays a "boot splash" that welcomes the user and displays thumbnails of the available windows managers. Press F2 to view the kernel's inner workings as it boots. Upon completion of the boot process, the user can start work or simply relax.
GoblinX has some minimum hardware requirements for proper operation, depending on the intended use. These include either an IDE connected CD-ROM or USB FlashDisk, non-emulation booting enabled BIOS, a minimum of 30 MB to boot GoblinX and 64 MB to run X with XFCE or WindowMaker, and a video card with 3D acceleration for certain games. No hard disk is required.
The latest stable edition, GoblinX 2.6, was released on February 18th and includes five windows managers: KDE, Fluxbox, Xfce, Enlightenment, and WindowMaker. This edition boasts several upgrades since the rc01 edition, such as corrected errors and bugs, upgrades to some packages and libraries, added folders to be used as package repositories, added media package repository to Slapt-getrc, an interface to build modules with Slapt-get help, a GUI for deactivating scripts to remove modules of the live CD, a direct autologin to Xorg as a user for the installed system, and package upgrade check to Xfce panel with the Xfce4-smartpm-plugin.
